Description

Artwork Size: 24×30, Medium: Oil, Location Depicted in Artwork: Tulsa, OK, Artist Statement: These two women stand on the Osage continuum, separated by 200 years, but connected by a shared tribal heritage. The young modern-day Osage woman is dressed in her colorful regalia including a broadcloth skirt with traditional ribbon work down one side and an intricate finger-woven sash. Using an iPad, she researches the adventures and difficulties faced by another young Osage woman, Mohongo (Sacred Sun), who lived two centuries before. Open hands represent friendship, in Osage iconography. A fitting symbol of camaraderie and empathy felt by the living for the bygone.
