Artwork Size: 16×12, Medium: Oil, Location Depicted in Artwork: Tahlequah, OK, Artist Statement: The Cherokee tribe’s presence in the Arkansas Territory began in 1816, and lasted until white settlement forced their movement farther west in 1829. This portrait depicts an elderly Cherokee woman. I tried to convey the strength, grace and dignity of this Cherokee elder.
