Artwork Size: 28×18, Medium: Soft Pastel, Location Depicted in Artwork: Van Buren, AR, Artist Statement: This is a site located on the Arkansas River in Van Buren, Arkansas, where retired river captain Phillip Pennywit operated a riverfront storage warehouse, flourmill, and popular mineral bathhouse in the 1840?s. Steamboats from New Orleans, and Cincinnati docked here on route to bring passengers and supplies to Northwest Arkansas and the Indian Territory. This was also the site of the 1849 Battle of Van Buren.
