Description
Artwork Size: 20×20, Medium: Oil on Board, Location Depicted in Artwork: Rogers, AR, Artist Statement: I’ve always loved bones, especially skulls of all kinds. They are an amazing feat of design and engineering. I found this razorback skull during a hike in the Arkansas Ozarks. I’ve had it for many years and it seemed a perfect subject for this exhibition. I depicted it on a “pedestal” to elevate and honor it. Domestic hogs were first introduced to the Americas by Christopher Columbus. Hernando de Soto brought the original thirteen wild boars to North America during his exploration of the New World. Hogs have become a staple of the American diet not to mention a mascot for the University of Arkansas. Today, feral hogs exist in over fifty Arkansas counties.
