Artwork Size: 24×24, Medium: Watercolor, Location Depicted in Artwork: AR & OK, Artist Statement: Planning for railroads in the territory began early in the 19th century, but construction was slow due to lack of funding, bankruptcies, war and natural disasters. Nonetheless, the expansion of railway lines continued well into the 20th century. Though still important to the transit industry today, rail lines in the region have declined by almost 50%. Few cabooses remain in service today, due to the easing of requirements in 1980.
