Artwork Size: 30×24, Medium: Acrylic, Location Depicted in Artwork: Pea Ridge, AR, Artist Statement: In June or July of 1865, Stand Watie surrendered to the Union. He was the very last Confederate General to surrender. Toward the end of the war, Stand Watie’s Cherokee Mounted Rifles won many minor but important victories. The most important of these victories occuring at Elk Horn Tavern on Pea Ridge, in Northwest Arkansas.
