Artwork Size: 24×24, Medium: Oil on Wood Panel, Location Depicted in Artwork: Little Rock, AR, Artist Statement: The Arkansas State Capitol Building, designed in the Neo-Classical style, and modeled after the U.S. Capitol by architect George Mann, has been used in many movies as a stand-in. Construction during 1899-1915, gave rise to political controversy, with delays due to its “pay-as-you-go” policy of funding, with additional difficulty managing a construction site which was also the site of the state penitentiary. Presently, it is the seat of the state’s government, housing its legislature, as well as offices for 6 of Arkansas’ 7 constitutional officers.
