Artwork Size: 24×39, Medium: Oil, Location Depicted in Artwork: Carnegie, OK, Artist Statement: Lone Wolf (the Elder) or Guipago (c. 1820 ? July 1879) was the last Principal Chief of the Kiowa tribe. He was a member of the Koitsenko, the Kiowa warrior elite, and was a signer of the Little Arkansas Treaty in 1865. The Kiowa people are a Native American tribe and an indigenous people of the Great Plains. In 1867, the Kiowa were moved to a reservation in southwestern Oklahoma. Today, they are federally recognized as Kiowa Tribe of Oklahoma with headquarters in Carnegie, Oklahoma. As of 2011, there were 12,000 members.
